016 Special education is the education, training of children who have impaired speech development, cognitive processes, hearing, and vision.

It is very important for a child who has a developmental disability to find a teacher who will help them adapt to the social environment, learn how to read, write, and determine their future profession.

Defect educator, speech therapist should love and know children, be sensitive to other people's problems, emotionally balanced, active, and creative in their profession.

Specialty "Special Education" at Kherson State University has full-time and correspondence forms of study in the specialties "bachelor", "master". Graduates of the specialty "Special Education" qualify as oligophrenopedagist and speech therapist.

Students of the specialty "Special Education" study:

- anatomical and physiological and clinical bases of developmental disorders;

- psychological features of children with psychophysical disabilities;

- methods of correction and developmental influence;

- special methods of preschool education and teaching of school subjects;

- speech therapy.

Much attention is paid to the practical training of students, which takes place in the leading institutions of correctional education in Kherson and the region.

A graduate of the Special Education specialty should know:

- the causes and peculiarities of abnormal mental development;

- basics of education and upbringing of children with special educational needs;

- methods of psychological and pedagogical diagnostics;

- maintenance of programs of preschool and school education and education of children with speech and cognitive defects;

- methods of psychological correction and content of psychological support for children with special educational needs;

- methods of speech and language diagnosis and correction of children of preschool and primary school age;

- patterns of social adaptation and rehabilitation of children with disabilities.

Specialist "Special Education" must be able to:

- to conduct research of mental functions, the state of speech formation, personal qualities, the level of social adaptation of children with developmental disabilities in order to provide them with adequate assistance;

- to organize and carry out corrective-developmental and corrective-educational work with children with special needs;

- carry out educational and educational work in specialized preschool and school educational establishments;

- systematically improve their professional qualification, plan and conduct research work;

- in professional activity to contact with public organizations dealing with problems of children with special needs;

- conduct lectures and advocacy work aimed at spreading knowledge about the causes of developmental anomalies, especially the education of children with psychophysical disabilities.

Graduates of the specialty "Special Education" are prepared to carry out corrective-pedagogical work with children with speech disorders, mental retardation, mental retardation and other psychophysical disabilities.

Graduates of Specialty 016 Special Education may be employed in the following positions:

speech therapists, defectologists;

- educators in special kindergartens for children with speech, intelligence, vision, musculoskeletal disorders;
