The first copy of the book Kherson: The Path of Patriots was presented to the Rector of Kherson State University, Professor Oleksandr Spivakovskyi. It is symbolic that he became the first reader of the publication, as several years ago he initiated the research into the occupation and liberation of Kherson and has continued to support efforts to preserve testimonies of the resistance of Kherson residents.

The Rector of Kherson State University, Oleksandr Spivakovskyi, announced the news on his Facebook page. He shared the news of the book’s publication, introduced its authors and invited everyone interested to attend its presentation.

Professor Oleksandr Cheremisin presented the Rector with a copy of the book bearing the authors’ signatures. The publication is the result of research aimed at collecting, examining and preserving the stories of people who resisted the Russian occupation, as well as documenting other important aspects of Kherson’s recent history. Its authors — Professor Oleksandr Cheremisin and Associate Professor Halyna Mykhailenko — are specialists in oral history who have been systematically researching and promoting the history of their home city.

“Some books bring us back to our city, even when we are far away from it.

Kherson: The Path of Patriots is about people who refused to surrender and about resistance that has become part of Ukraine’s history.”

These were the words of Oleksandr Spivakovskyi, who thanked the authors for preserving the testimonies and voices of Kherson residents.

The Rector also emphasised the importance of the University’s support for research into Kherson’s recent history and for preserving the memory of the events of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Several years ago, he initiated research into the occupation and liberation of Kherson, which, with the support of the Academic Council of Kherson State University, has since developed into further research and publishing projects.

The book explores such topics as the Antonivka Bridge, the Scientific Lyceum, the Lilac Park and the stories of people whose actions became a testament to the resilience of the city.
