On November 05, 2026, during the week of in-person learning, at the Faculty of Digital Technologies, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, an interactive lecture «Geography of what, when, and where we eat» took place. By Serhii Valentynovych Simchenko, assistant of the Department of Geography and Ecology of KSU. Participants together searched for answers to the question of why the cuisines of the peoples of the world are so different and how natural conditions and history affect what ends up on our plate.

Food can be a true geographical characteristic of a country. The main idea of food geography is that traditional cuisine is formed as a result of the interaction of natural conditions, human economic activity, historical events, and cultural traditions. Looking at a map where continents are marked with products, participants looked for what was "not right" on it and learned where potatoes, tomatoes, rice, or wheat actually come from.

Bright illustrations, unexpected questions to the audience, and lively discussion made the lecture lively and engaging. Now our students will definitely look at familiar dishes through the prism of geography!

Thank you, Serhii Valentynovych, for an interesting and informative lecture!
