National Unity Radio Dictation 2026
On October 27, faculty and students of Kherson State University took part in the All-Ukrainian Radio Dictation of National Unity, held to mark the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language
The Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language is dedicated to honoring the Ukrainian language, its centuries-old history, its cultural heritage, and its significance in preserving national identity. The date of the celebration is linked to the feast day of the Venerable Nestor the Chronicler—one of the most renowned chroniclers of the Kyivan Rus' era, who is traditionally credited with playing a pivotal role in the development of written culture.
The tradition of the "Radio Dictation of National Unity" was initiated by the Ukrainian Radio team in 2000. The goal of this initiative was to unite Ukrainians around their native language. Over time, the radio dictation has evolved into a large-scale, nationwide event, drawing participants from every corner of Ukraine and across the globe. Its primary objective is not merely to test literacy, but to foster a sense of unity within the Ukrainian community, regardless of where individuals may be located.
The text for this year’s dictation, titled "The Letter That Never Ends," was authored by Ukrainian writer and veteran of the Russo-Ukrainian War, Artur Dron. During the live broadcast, the text was read by Artur Proidakov, a teacher of Ukrainian language and literature, and Dasha Astafieva, a public figure, volunteer, and singer.
For the university community, participating in this initiative served as an opportunity to demonstrate respect for the state language, support Ukrainian cultural traditions, and reaffirm the importance of the native language in preserving national distinctiveness. Even amidst war and the forced displacement of the university community, such initiatives help maintain a connection to one’s native culture, strengthen the sense of belonging to the Ukrainian nation, and uphold shared values.
The Ukrainian language is our history, our identity, and a force that unites Ukrainians across the globe!
