The First Vice-Rector of KSU spoke as a speaker at the forum “Education. Resilience. Development”
How should a university work for the community and together with the community? On this, the university's first vice-rector Serhii Omelchuk spoke on October 25 at the Regional Forum «Education. Resilience. Development» in Ternopil during the discussion platform «Public University». For whom and for what sake?». The event took place at the Volodymyr Hnatiuk Ternopil National Pedagogical University.
Serhii Omelchuk presented the experience of Kherson State University in implementing the university's third (social) mission.

«For us, this is a new philosophy of interaction with the Kherson and Ivano-Frankivsk communities, which defines the educational, scientific, expert, and social priorities of the university. Since 2022, we are a university of two spaces: Kherson and Ivano-Frankivsk. In the conditions of war and displacement, we not only preserve the academic community but also expand partnerships, support communities, and participate in the restoration of the Kherson region. Shared specific practices: scientific research at the request of communities, the participation of our faculty in expert and working groups, digital solutions for educational partners, support for veterans and internally displaced persons, social and cultural-educational initiatives», – commented the first vice-rector of KSU.
According to him, the main thesis of the speech is: the university implements its third mission not when it organizes events for the community, but when the needs of the community define its priorities, and joint actions yield tangible results.
«I am convinced that today the university should be not only a center of education and science, but also an active participant in the development of communities, a space of trust, partnership, and shared responsibility for the future. After all, the true strength of a university – lies not only in what it gives to the community, but also in what it is able to create together with it», – noted Serhii Omelchuk.
