Returned from Russian captivity is a graduate and student of the Faculty of Business and Law of Kherson State University, defender of Ukraine Oleksii Shamanskyi. The Kherson resident was in captivity for over 4 years.

Oleksii Shamanskyi was returned to Ukraine during another prisoner exchange.

In 2013, he entered KSU majoring in «Enterprise Economics», and in 2019, he obtained a bachelor's degree. After his studies, his professional path was connected with the National Police of Ukraine. Later, Oleksii decided to continue his education and once again became a student of Kherson State University, this time choosing the specialty «Law».

In April 2022, he was part of the defenders of Mariupol and fell into Russian captivity.

«More than four years of waiting. And finally – a return home! For the university community, this news has a special significance. Behind every name in the lists of the released — a human destiny, family, friends, dreams, and plans that the war ruthlessly interrupted. And for us, Oleksii — is also part of the large KSU family. We sincerely rejoice in his return, express deep respect for his courage and resilience, and wish him strength, health, recovery, and a peaceful future. Oleksii, welcome to your native land! Kherson State University is proud of its graduate and is always happy to see you in its university family! We thank everyone who works for the return of Ukrainian defenders and heroines. We remember and wait for everyone who still remains in captivity», – noted KSU Rector Oleksandr Spivakovskyi.
