Support for women whose loved ones are serving: care that gives strength
Women, whose loved ones are defending Ukraine, live every day in anticipation of news, anxiety, and uncertainty. At this time, it is especially important to remember: support — is not pity, but respect, understanding, and the readiness to be there.
As part of the communication campaign «Supporting women whose loved ones are serving» of the All-Ukrainian mental health program «How Are You?» — an initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, implemented in partnership with UNICEF, — attention is focused on the experiences of the women themselves, their feelings, experiences, and ways to find inner strength.
«To calm yourself, first of all, you must not pity yourself. You are at home, in warmth, you have friends, and he is „there“». These words convey the complexity of the feelings faced by women whose loved ones are in military service. Waiting, anxiety, and worry can accompany everyday life, so it is important not to be left alone with your experiences.
At the same time, self-care is not a sign of weakness and not a reason for guilt. It is an opportunity to restore strength, care for one's own emotional state, find time for rest, communicate with loved ones, and seek help when it is needed.
To be a support for loved ones, it is important to remain a support for yourself.

Support begins with attention, a sincere word, and a readiness to listen without judgment. Sometimes, the very opportunity to be heard helps one feel that there are people nearby, ready to understand and support.
