The Department of History, Archaeology, and Teaching Methodology co-organized a round table
September 17, 2026, on the eve of the celebration of Kherson City Day, an expert Round Table «Kherson in Time: Where the City Begins and Which Dates Unite Us» took place. The event was dedicated to rethinking the history of the city and was held in a hybrid format
The event was organized by the Kherson City Military Administration—with the support of the Institute of National Remembrance—and the Department of History, Archaeology, and Teaching Methodology at Kherson State University.
One of the organizers and speakers was Natalia Kuzovova, Head of the Department of History, Archaeology, and Teaching Methodology at Kherson State University, Candidate of Historical Sciences, and Associate Professor. She presented a paper titled "How Cities Are Born: Kherson in the Global Context of Urban Studies," focusing on interpreting the history of Kherson’s founding and development through the lens of global urban processes.
The presentation was part of a broader scholarly discussion regarding the historical starting point for the story of Kherson, the role played by the local community in the city's formation, and the principles that should underpin a modern, accessible history of the city.
The roundtable also addressed significant dates that foster community unity in Kherson’s history, as well as the criteria for determining City Day and other commemorative dates. Following the discussion, participants consolidated their proposals and outlined next steps for reinterpreting and popularizing the history of Kherson.
