KSU won an international grant for the development of crisis management in education
More wonderful news for Kherson State University! The project "Strengthening expertise in crisis management for the resilience of higher education institutions" (SECURE), developed by a consortium including Kherson State University, Sumy State University and Tampere University (Finland), has received support within the Team Finland Knowledge – Ukraine 2026 program with a total budget of 79,998 euros.
"It is particularly pleasing that the competition was extremely high this year: only 9 out of 23 submitted projects received funding. This testifies to a high evaluation of the idea, the team, and its potential," – noted KSU Rector Oleksandr Spivakovsky.
The goal of the project is to strengthen expertise in the field of crisis management for higher education institutions and to integrate the unique Ukrainian experience of university functioning under wartime conditions into the European educational space.
Within the framework of the project, an international course "Crisis Management of Higher Education Institutions in Wartime Conditions" will be created, which will be taught at the University of Tampere together with Ukrainian and Finnish teachers. The project also provides for academic mobility, joint teaching, professional exchange, and the development of long-term partnerships between universities in Ukraine and Finland.
"For Kherson State University, this is much more than just another international project. It is confirmation that the experience of Ukrainian universities, gained under extremely difficult wartime conditions, is becoming a source of new knowledge for the international academic community.
We are convinced that today Ukraine is not only learning from the world. The world is also learning from Ukraine – resilience, responsibility, crisis leadership, and the ability to maintain the quality of education even in the most difficult circumstances.
I sincerely thank the Vice-Rector for International and Scientific-Pedagogical Work Alla Tsapiv, the Assistant to the Rector on Strategic Issues Maksym Poltoratskyi, and the entire staff of the international relations department for their professionalism, initiative, and teamwork. It is thanks to such people that the university constantly opens new international opportunities and strengthens its presence in the global academic space.
Special thanks to Kateryna Suprun, a doctoral researcher at the Higher Education Research Group of the University of Tampere, and Alla Krasula, Head of the International Cooperation Department of Sumy State University, for their trust, partnership, and shared commitment to creating projects that have long-term value.
Together we prove: even in wartime, Ukrainian universities not only preserve their mission but also shape new approaches that become part of the European future of education," – summarized Oleksandr Spivakovsky.
