On April 14, as part of the implementation of the international Erasmus+ BURN project («Boosting University Psychological Resilience and Wellbeing in (Post-)War Ukrainian Nation»), the second wave of training for participants of the educational process on the topic «Trauma-informed education (TIE)» began at the Center for Psychological Resilience and Wellbeing of Kherson State University.

The training was conducted by Larisa Viktorivna Tior, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology at KSU.

The purpose of the event was to familiarize teachers with the key principles of a trauma-informed approach and to develop practical skills for creating a safe, supportive educational environment for students who have experienced traumatic events.

Training participants examined modern approaches to understanding psychological trauma, specifically its types and its impact on cognitive, emotional, and behavioral manifestations in the learning process. Particular attention was paid to the neurobiological aspects of trauma, as well as the reactions of the nervous system under stress.

The practical part of the event involved working with case studies that illustrate the impact of traumatic experience on students' academic activities. As part of group work, participants worked on strategies for trauma-informed interaction, including:

  • creating a safe and predictable educational environment;
  • applying principles of supporting student autonomy;
  • using a resource-oriented approach;
  • implementing trauma-informed assessment practices.

A separate area of work was the development of professional self-reflection skills for teachers through the use of the so-called "trauma-informed lens," which involves reframing students' behavioral manifestations as potential reactions to traumatic experience.

The event was held using interactive teaching methods, including group discussions, analysis of practical situations, and reflective exercises.

The implementation of such trainings contributes to increasing the psychological competence of teachers and developing a support system for students during wartime and post-war periods.

We thank all participants for their engagement, openness to new experiences, and collaborative work in creating a supportive educational space.

The training took place as part of the international Erasmus+ BURN project
