Practical Workshop: Music Pedagogy Inspired by Carl Orff and Vasyl Verkhovynets

The practical day of the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation "Current Issues in Preschool, Primary, and Special Education in the Context of Societal Crisis Challenges" continued with another vibrant workshop, led by Alla Leonidivna Vladymyrova, Associate Professor at the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology of Preschool and Primary Education.

From the very first minutes, it was clear that something special awaited us — lively, rhythmic, and truly inspiring. Alla Leonidivna introduced participants to the approaches of Carl Orff, a German composer and educator who advocated for teaching music to children through movement, gestures, play, and improvisation. We also explored how these ideas are adapted in the Ukrainian context, particularly through the legacy of Vasyl Verkhovynets — a Ukrainian composer, conductor, and choreographer.

During the session, participants didn’t just listen — they were fully immersed in action. We were introduced to Ukrainian folk instruments, performed rhythmic exercises, and even recreated the sound of rain using our hands, fingers, and bodies. One of the most engaging moments was playing music with cups and sticks, turning everyday objects into real instruments.

Participants also tried their hand at conducting, learning to feel the music through gestures, eye contact, and group coordination. This was not just entertainment — it was a true form of music pedagogy that nurtures children's natural sense of rhythm, teamwork, and inner harmony.

The workshop concluded with enthusiastic smiles, applause, and a shared sense that music isn’t only about notes and instruments. It’s about emotion, connection, and movement — created simply, and sincerely.
