This week, KSU English Book Club met to discuss the detective story The Incredible Theft by Agatha Christie.

✔️ The participants shared their impressions of the book, discussed the plot and its red herrings, as well as the themes covered in the novel.
✔️ We talked about the writing style and legacy of the famous writer.
✔️ And, of course, we described and compared the approach of the detective Poirot.

✔️ Participants shared their impressions of reading a book in English, discussed the plot, main characters and themes covered in the work.

✔️ They also discussed the moral lessons that can be drawn from the story's events for the modern world.

It was a pleasure to meet true fans of classic English literature. We thank everyone who joined us!

On 25 February, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Mykhailo Vynnytskyi visited the Ivano-Frankivsk office of Kherson State University as part of his visit to the Carpathian region. The representative of the Ministry of Education and Science met with KSU Rector Oleksandr Spivakovsky and the university staff, inspected the infrastructure of KSU's Ivano-Frankivsk office, and joined the opening of new classrooms.

You’re probably familiar with Agatha Christie, even if you’ve never read any of her work. She’s been deemed “The Queen of Mystery” in honour of her prolific career as a mystery writer, which spanned fifty-five long years. In fact, Christie is the most widely published author of all time, after Shakespeare and the bible.

So we propose you to try one of her most famous works in English, which you can find here.

We are pleased to inform you that the KSU Book Club in the format of book discussions and film adaptations, is back! It will take place once a month as a part of the Educational and Cultural Hub ‘Interesting Ukraine’ and FLEO activities.

On 27 November, KSU Educational and Cultural HUB hosted a presentation of a postage stamp series ‘New Names on the Map of Kherson’ dedicated to prominent personalities whose names are immortalised on the updated toponymic map of the city.

As part of the weeks of in-person training for the staff of the Ivano-Frankivsk office, Daria Domanchuk, Head of the KSU Social and Psychological Service, conducted a training on Psycho-Emotional Support during War: Healing Techniques. The event focused on preserving mental health and providing psychosocial support to IDPs from the Kherson region, developing the resilience of the population and promoting the development of social mechanisms of interaction. According to Daria Domanchuk, this is an important step for mutual support of the university staff.

On 7 October, Kherson State University hosted a solemn meeting on the Day of Education Workers of Ukraine. Due to the equipment obtained within the HUB operation, the event was held simultaneously at the Ivano-Frankivsk and Kherson offices in a hybrid mode.

The students of the Faculty of Computer Science, Physics and Mathematics of Kherson State University attended a workshop ‘VR Technologies in Education’. It was held by Oleksandr Lemeshchuk, Vice-Rector for Digitalisation, Innovation, Investment and Scientific and Pedagogical Work of KSU, and Yevhen Khomenko, a postgraduate student of the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering.

The classes were held at the KSU office in Ivano-Frankivsk in the discipline ‘Physiology of Sport and Physical Activity’, conducted by the Head of the Department of Medical and Biological Foundations Serhii Holiaka.

For the third time, Kherson State University joins the initiative to support sports programming in Ukraine and acts as a hub for the International Sports Programming Olympiad from the IT company DataArt Proggy-Buggy Contest, which will take place on 26 October 2024 at 13:00 (Kyiv).

In celebration of World Mental Health Day and within the work of the Educational and Cultural HUB, the KSU community joined the webinar ‘Stress-Free Education: How the U.S. Experience of Supporting Mental Health in Educational Institutions Can Benefit Ukraine'.

As part of the full-time training held at the Ivano-Frankivsk office of Kherson State University, bachelor's and master's students of the Faculty of Education attended a workshop on the basics of robotics.

On 16 August, Kherson State University hosted a landmark event - the diploma awarding ceremony for bachelor's and master's graduates of the 222 Medicine speciality. More than 500 participants joined the event due to the equipment obtained within the Educational and Cultural HUB operation. The celebrations were held in a hybrid mode.

From 7 to 11 August, Ivano-Frankivsk will host a summer research school for young geographers entitled ‘Research on the De-occupied Territories’. A number of events will be held at the Educational and Cultural Hub of Kherson State University.

On 14 June, the Rector and Vice-Rectors of Kherson State University joined the Rector's Council session and a meeting of the scientific community of Ivano-Frankivsk region with Oleh Sharov, the General Director of the Directorate of Professional Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The event was held at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University.

We are also happy to announce that our final Book Club meeting took place last week despite anything! Thank you to everyone who joined the discussion, it was a great pleasure! 🤗 We will see you after the summer break - recharged and ready to continue the journey of English learning!

On the last day of April, FLEO hosted an exciting and interactive event at the Educational and Cultural Hub. It was aimed at creating a foreign language environment at our university. KSU Book Club participants met to share their impressions of the book Ninety Eighty-Four by George Orwell. The discussion was undoubtedly thought-provoking 

On 25 May, the spring round of the annual International Programming Proggy-Buggy Towel Contest 2024 by DataArt took place. This year, 1526 participants from 45 countries joined the competition.

As part of the work of the Educational and Cultural HUB and the Global Media and Information Literacy Week, which takes place from 24 to 31 October, the FUFPJ Scientific Society led by Associate Professor of the Department of English Philology and World Literature named after Professor O. Mishukov, N. Bazylevych, held an interactive webinar ‘Media Literacy in the Global Information Society’.

Daria Shamal, a student of 151M group, and Anastasiia Chubatova, a student of 351 group, presented an interesting report on how to analyse information and identify manipulations that may come from the media. Participants also had the opportunity to watch an interview with IREX expert Olena Taranenko, learned about six life hacks on how not to fall for fakes and constantly develop their critical thinking. At the end of the event, everyone was able to test their knowledge of media literacy with a blitz test on the Online Pad Test platform.

On November 15, Svitlana Klymovych, Head of the Department of Ukrainian and Slavic Philology and Journalism at Kherson State University, held a practical lesson in Ukrainian for Professionals at the HUB.

Students of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports worked on normativity and correctness of professional speech. They also consolidated their knowledge of creating degrees of comparison for adjectives and declining numerals. The lesson was held in a hybrid mode. The cozy atmosphere in the HUB was complemented by answers from a huge Zoom audience that joined the lesson remotely.

On 21 November, Kherson State University hosted a lecture entitled ‘Ukrainian-Polish Relations: Retrospective and Future’. The event was held as part of the Educational and Cultural HUB dedicated to the 106th anniversary of KSU. The speaker was Roman Drozd, Honorary Professor of KSU, Professor of the Institute of History at the Pomeranian University in Słupsk.

Today, a working meeting was held on the organisation of the Proggy-Buggy Contest 2023 by DataArt, on the basis of the Cultural and Educational HUB of the Ivano-Frankivsk office of KSU

The meeting was attended by:

- Olga Denysenko - Early Career Programmes Manager, DataArt;

On 30 November, the Hub hosted an interactive lecture on ‘Creating Practice-Oriented Tasks in the Primary School Natural Sciences’ by Nataliia Borysenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Theory and Methods of Preschool and Primary Education.
The event addressed the issues of competence and practice-oriented tasks that are created and used in science classes, as well as the AI application during them. The students learned about different types of tasks and approaches in schools in other countries. Educators and students actively participated in the discussion, completed tasks, and received information about useful tools.

On 1 December, Professor Liudmyla Perminova, Head of the Petukhov Department of Pedagogy, Psychology and Educational Management, gave a lecture on ‘Benchmarking Approach to Forming the Competitiveness of Future Educators’ at the KSU HUB. The participants discussed the use of the benchmarking concept in the management system of a HEI, which allows to improve quality and efficiency, form a new concept of the educational process, assess the professionalism of management, which ultimately leads to the sustainable development of the institution and achievement of a given level of competitiveness. The event also raised topical issues concerning students, alumni and educators.

Professional burnout is an urgent problem today, which can be exacerbated in times of war, instability and distance learning.
On 5 December, Vira Liashko, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor of the Department of Special Education at the Faculty of Education, held the first theoretical part of a training lecture on the topic of ‘Professional Burnout Syndrome of Educators and its Psychocorrection’. The participants discussed theoretical issues related to the profession and the challenges faced by all educators, as well as statistics, the specifics of the syndrome and burnout factors.
We invite everyone to the second session of the training on psychocorrecting professional burnout syndrome in educational workers, which will take place on 13 December at 15.00.

Kherson State University hosted a public lecture entitled ‘The Holocaust in the Kherson Region’. The lecturer was Yuriy Kaparulin, Associate Professor of the Department of National, International Law and Law Enforcement at KSU, a visiting researcher and lecturer at the Weiser Center for European and Eurasian Studies, University of Michigan (USA).

The HUB of KSU's Ivano-Frankivsk office is becoming a real educational and cultural centre. It is a favourite place for both students and academics as the HUB is technically equipped to hold hybrid classes.

Recently, the newly set up Educational and Cultural HUB of the Ivano-Frankivsk office of Kherson State University hosted a lecture by Oleksandr Voloshyn, Associate Professor of the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Business. It was dedicated to wine and gastronomic tourism and held in a hybrid mode.

‘This meeting was rich in interesting information and fascinating demonstrations that expanded our understanding of wine and gastronomy tourism. We thank Oleksandr Voloshyn for his valuable knowledge and fascinating experience,’ the students shared their impressions.

On 13 December, the Educational and Cultural Hub hosted the second training lecture on the topic ‘Professional Burnout Syndrome of Educators and its Psychocorrection’, delivered by Vira Liashko, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Special Education at the Faculty of Education. 

As part of the work of the Educational and Cultural Hub, a lecture on Sports Tourism was held by Yurii Antonovych Grabovskyi, Head of the Department of Theory and Methods of Physical Education at KSU.

On 19 October, at the Educational and Cultural HUB of the KSU Ivano-Frankivsk Office, specialists from the University's Humanities Department met with students who study and live in hospitable Ivano-Frankivsk.

During the first meeting of KSU Book Club, the participants discussed the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. They shared their initial impressions of the book, talked about their favourite characters, chapters and episodes, humour and lessons they learned from the story.

We'd like to remind you that we'll soon be voting for the book📚 we'll be reading during March, so join in!

On 18 October, the Educational and Cultural Hub ‘Interesting Ukraine’ was opened at the Office of Kherson State University in Ivano-Frankivsk. 

The participants of the event have an opportunity to attend:

• a masterclass for medical students on the use of interactive technologies in teaching general biology courses.
• a public online lecture ‘The Crime of Genocide: Historical Aspects, Memorial Laws and Political Discussions in Ukraine’. It was held by Yuriy Kaparulin, Associate Professor of the Department of National, International Law and Law Enforcement at KSU, visiting researcher and lecturer at the Weiser Center for European and Eurasian Studies, University of Michigan (USA).

At the end of March, FLEO hosted the second meeting of the KSU Book Club, during which the participants discussed the book by the famous American author F.S. Fitzgerald called The Great Gatsby. During the meeting, participants shared their impressions of the characters, the plot, the acute topics raised by the author in the work, as well as their personal opinions and views on the novel.
