Science you can touch: FCTPNM students visited the "Nova Energiia" science town

On November 06, 2026, on the last day of the week of in-person learning, students and teachers of the Faculty of Digital Technologies, Natural Sciences and Mathematics visited the «Nova Energiia» science town in Ivano-Frankivsk. This is an interactive science museum where over 30 exhibits come to life thanks to the hands, weight, breath, or voice of the visitor. Participants tested the laws of mechanics, optics, electricity, and magnetism firsthand.

The usual museum rule «do not touch» does not apply here: every exhibit must be touched, turned, or operated manually.

Students and teachers lifted themselves on a system of pulleys and saw how it reduces the required effort. They also ran in a large wheel and launched balls from an air cannon. On a magnetic bridge, participants built an arch from steel washers, and near optical exhibits, they created colored shadows and lost themselves among hundreds of their own reflections in a mirror kaleidoscope and a mirror room.

Many impressions were provided by a thermal imager, which showed how different the temperatures of our palms are, and an interactive sandbox with a relief that changes right under your hands. Students also produced electricity themselves to light up the lights in a small house.

Such an excursion is a wonderful example of how the natural sciences become understandable and exciting when they can be seen and felt. And for future teachers, it is also a source of ideas for their own lessons.
