Yuliia Yurina, dean of the Faculty of Philology, Journalism and Arts of KSU, participated in the program «Position of Galicia» of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Television «Halychyna». The theme of the broadcast is «Political upheavals and information wars: new challenges for Ukraine».
In the studio, they discussed changes in the world order, the role of the USA, the strengthening of radical movements in Europe, Russian information operations, and ways to counter manipulation.
«Being on air – is not about the television image. It is about responsibility for every word spoken. For me, participating in the program «Position of Galicia» on Halychyna TV became not just a debut on television, but an opportunity to talk about what is truly important today. About information wars, manipulations, critical thinking, and our ability not to lose the truth among thousands of information messages. It is especially valuable to represent Kherson State University and the Faculty of Philology, Journalism and Arts of KSU in such discussions, because we do not just train future journalists. We are forming a generation that will be able to ask uncomfortable questions and not agree to a convenient lie!», – emphasized Yuliia Yurina.
The popularity of information does not equal its reliability. Millions of views do not guarantee truthfulness, and emotional reaction often precedes the critical understanding of facts.
These are precisely the issues that will be addressed during the training of students under the «Journalism» educational program at KSU – creating quality content, as well as recognizing manipulations, countering disinformation, verifying sources, and working responsibly with information.
At the same time, the Rector of KSU, Oleksandr Spivakovsky, added that the expertise of our teachers is a contribution to the development of society and the information resilience of Ukraine:
