The Scientific Library announces a seminar by Research4Life
On October 20–21, 2026, a practical seminar titled "Practical Writing of Research Papers: From Research Question to Publication" will take place, focusing on developing skills in academic writing, searching for scholarly information, and preparing research papers for publication.
The event is organized by the Research4Life Capacity Development Committee and the Information Training and Research for Africa Centre (ITOCA). The workshop is aimed at supporting young researchers, PhD students, librarians, and information professionals and aligns with the Research4Life 2030 vision to expand the participation of researchers from the Global South in the creation and use of scientific knowledge.
Key workshop topics
The program covers key stages of the research process — from information retrieval and formulating a research question to manuscript preparation and publication of results.
Participants will cover the following topics:
· Scientific information retrieval: capabilities of the Research4Life portal, Google Scholar, Summon, specifically its AI-based tools, and the Dimensions database.
· Research preparation: identifying information resources, reading scientific articles, and formulating a research question.
· Academic writing: key approaches to writing research papers.
· Publication process: features of the publication stages, payment issues, and discussion of common questions.
· Publication ethics: ethical aspects of writing and disseminating research results.
· Open science: benefits of open research and cost-effective ways to conduct it.
· Artificial intelligence in scientific writing: responsible integration of AI tools and an overview of relevant resources.
The workshop will also include a panel discussion dedicated to the prospects of scientific publications for researchers from the Global South.
