From October 1, 2026, studies in the new discipline «Foundations of National Resistance» have begun at Kherson State University. In the 2026/2027 academic year, it will be studied by first and second-year students.

It is symbolic that the teaching of the new discipline begins on the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, and their experience and knowledge will be passed on to the students of Kherson State University, including combat veterans.

As Daria Malchykova, Vice-Rector for Academic and Scientific-Pedagogical Affairs of KSU, reported, four university lecturers with appropriate qualifications and combat experience are involved in teaching the discipline. To organize the educational process, syllabi have also been developed based on a standard program of the discipline, which was approved by an order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

«The discipline has been introduced for all first-year students of the 2026 intake of the full-time form of study; also, the classroom part of the «Basics of National Resistance» course has been included in the curricula of second-year students», - Daria Malchykova said.

«Basics of National Resistance» is aimed at forming knowledge and practical skills in students necessary for actions under modern security threats. In particular, it refers to life and health preservation skills, providing first aid, and forming the readiness of citizens for national resistance.

At the same time, the university emphasizes that studying the new discipline does not involve taking the Military Oath, undergoing a medical examination, reporting to territorial recruitment and social support centers (TRC and SS), staying at training grounds of the Defense Forces, obtaining a military occupational specialty, or acquiring the status of a person liable for military service.

Thus, the course is focused on forming knowledge and competencies that are relevant for citizens under modern security challenges and martial law.
