KSU scientists participated in an international webinar on the restoration of Ukraine's nature
At the end of May, the fifth webinar of the series «Nature Restoration in Ukraine: Challenges of War and Opportunities for EU Integration» (Nature Restoration in Ukraine: Challenges of War and Opportunities for EU Integration) took place.
As part of the event, a joint report «The Impact of War on the Landscapes, Nature, and Environment of Ukraine (General Overview, Case Studies, specifically the Kakhovka Reservoir Disaster)» was presented by scientists from Kherson State University – Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Oleksandr Khodosovtsev, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Daria Malchykova, and Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Ihor Pylypenko.
The working language of the webinar was English. The event was held as part of the project «Nature Restoration – challenges and opportunities for future landscape specialists» (FutureLand) («Nature Restoration – challenges and opportunities for future landscape specialists») under the Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships for Higher Education (KA220-HED) program together with colleagues from Spain, Italy, and Finland. The Department of Socio-Economic Geography and Regional Studies named after Kostiantyn Niemets of the Faculty of Geology, Geography, Recreation, and Tourism is the implementer of a grant project from V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
During the webinar, issues were discussed regarding the opportunities and challenges of implementing the EU Nature Restoration Law in Ukraine, the impact of military actions on the state of the natural environment and urban ecosystems, the restoration of natural landscapes after ecological disasters, the development of tactical urbanism, public participation, and the formation of memorial spaces in the urban environment of Ukraine and the city of Kharkiv in particular.
Representatives of executive authorities, local self-government, non-governmental organizations, and the academic community of Ukraine also participated in the webinar.
