May 14, on the occasion of celebrating Science Day in Ukraine, KSU First Vice-Rector Serhii Omelchuk participated in the 1st International Scientific and Practical Conference «Transformation of the educational process as a factor in the professional growth of pedagogical workers in the context of reforms and modern realities» in Chernivtsi.

The conference was organized by the Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education of the Chernivtsi region in partnership with the Institute of Pedagogy of the NAES of Ukraine, the Ivan Ziazun Institute of Pedagogical Education and Adult Education of the NAES of Ukraine, the Institute of Slavistics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the National Ukrainian Education Council of the Congress of Ukrainians in Canada, and the Association of Ukrainian Teachers of Great Britain.

Serhii Omelchuk delivered a report titled «Transformation of traditional and acquisition of new professional functions of the modern teacher», during which he presented the transformative processes in the structure of the teacher's professional functions under global and national challenges and in accordance with the modern context of the education system in Ukraine.

The scientist specifically focused on how the professional functions of the modern teacher are changing.

"Today, a teacher is much more than just a subject instructor. In the conditions of war, they often become a source of support, stability, and security for children, helping to overcome educational losses and maintain a connection with Ukraine even for those students who are abroad. At the same time, a modern educator must work confidently in the digital environment: forming the digital culture of students, teaching safe online behavior, and using digital tools and artificial intelligence capabilities for personalized learning. A new communicative role of the teacher has also become important—interaction through social networks with students and parents,"– noted Serhii Omelchuk.

The speaker paid particular attention to the changes related to the implementation of educational reforms, as well as the need for continuous professional development of the teacher themselves, their resilience, flexibility, and readiness for lifelong learning.

"The transformation of the teacher's professional functions under social challenges, new educational policies and reforms, and digitalization testifies to the adaptability of the teaching profession, its resilience, and its ability to ensure the continuity and modernization of the educational process.

I am sincerely grateful to the organizers for the invitation, Maria Tsurkan, the high level of scientific discussion, and the opportunity to discuss current challenges and prospects for the development of modern education in an international professional circle,"– summarized Serhii Omelchuk.
