KSU about the occupation of Kherson and the resistance of citizens
As part of History Week at Berdyansk State Pedagogical University, a presentation was held for scientific publications by researchers from Kherson State University, dedicated to the events of the occupation of Kherson and the civil resistance of local residents.
Documenting and preserving historical memory is one of the key priorities of KSU. It is for this purpose that the university initiated the research topic «Occupation and Liberation of Kherson: Antonivskyi Bridge, Buzkyi Park, and the Heroism of Civil Resistance».
Within the framework of this project, in December 2023, the first book was released — «Chronicle of Kherson's Civil Resistance in the Dimensions of Russia's Full-Scale Aggression against Ukraine in 2022». Its author is Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Archaeology, History, and Teaching Methodology Oleksandr Cheremisin. The publication contains 27 documentary interviews with residents of Kherson about the first days of the full-scale invasion and the experience of resistance under occupation.
Later, the second book was released — «Kherson 2022: With Ukraine in the Heart», authored by Oleksandr Cheremisin and Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, History, and Sociology Halyna Mykhailenko.
These two publications were presented during History Week at BSPU.
During a meeting with students and faculty, Oleksandr Cheremisin and Halyna Mykhailenko spoke about the results of their scientific work, which is based on personal experience of being in occupied Kherson and interviews with witnesses of those events.
As noted by the university's social and humanitarian department, particular attention during the event was paid to future initiatives aimed at documenting people's resistance and preserving the living memory of the region.
«The great war is not only about borders — it continues for our cities, for our memory and the right to be ourselves. The most tragic pages of modern history are being written right now, and our common task is to manage to record every voice before it fades in the whirlwind of events. As part of History Week, an interesting meeting took place with Oleksandr Cheremisin — Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of History, Archaeology, and Teaching Methodology of Kherson State University, and Halyna Mykhailenko — Associate Professor of the Department of History, Archaeology, and Teaching Methodology of Kherson State University. The speakers highlighted the results of their scientific work, which is based on personal experience of being in Kherson and interviews with witnesses of the occupation. During the meeting, they presented their scientific achievements», — emphasize the organizers.
