In-person week at FIUFZHM: from information hygiene to the philosophy of travel
The in-person week for students of the Faculty of Foreign and Ukrainian Philology, Journalism and Arts became a time of intensive immersion into the current topics of the modern world.
Under the guidance of lecturer Olena Stavenko, in classes for the discipline «Practice of Oral and Written English Speech», students not only improved their language skills but also developed skills critical for a modern professional.
Two key topics – two perspectives on reality:
1. «Reality Check: Truth, Filter & Fake News»
Can we trust everything we see and read today? Students explored the world of information manipulation, learned to distinguish facts from fakes, and also analyzed how the «filters» of our perception affect the understanding of reality. The focus was on media literacy and the ability to think critically in English.
2. «Types of Travelling: Experience, Choice, Sense»
Traveling is not just about distances, but also about new meanings. The class was held in a hybrid format: combining the classroom of the KSU office in Ivano-Frankivsk and the Zoom online space, future philologists and journalists discussed modern tourism trends. From eco-travel to solo trips — everyone argued their choice, sharing their own experience and expanding their lexical repertoire.
Why is this important?
Modern learning is about going beyond textbooks. Thanks to working with authentic materials and lively discussions, our students have once again proven: to master a language means being able to deeply analyze the world around you.
