The Vice-rector of KSU presented research in Germany on the challenges facing frontline de-occupied territories.
Professor, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Vice-Rector for Academic and Research-Pedagogical Affairs at Kherson State University Daria Malchykova spoke at an international seminar dedicated to the transformation of the labor market in Ukraine during Russia's full-scale invasion. The event took place on April 22 in Berlin (Germany).
The international seminar was organized by Centre Marc Bloch in Berlin, the ZOiS and the KIU Competence Network Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies.
Daria Malchykova, as a researcher, systematically studies the situation in the frontline Kherson region. Her presentation at the seminar was dedicated to the cardinal transformations of the population and the labor market.
The study was titled «Demographic Hollowing and multiple stressors of the labour market in front-line de-occupied regions». It was conducted in collaboration with Professor, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Geography and Ecology Ihor Pylypenko and the head of the Society of Ukrainian Researchers Pavlo Ostapenko.
In the study, primary focus was placed on the challenges faced by frontline de-occupied territories, specifically on population decline, labor market transformation, and the accumulation of socio-economic risks.
Overall, the seminar brought together scientists from various countries and was dedicated to a comprehensive analysis of the impact of war on Ukrainian society. The focus of discussions included changes in economic geography, population mobility, employment transformations, new vulnerabilities, and forms of adaptation under conditions of prolonged war.
