A student of the pedagogical faculty will lead the KSU Student Parliament
On April 22, a reporting and election student conference was held at Kherson State University. Students gathered to hear the report of the head of the student parliament and elect a new representative of the student body.
KSU Rector Oleksandr Spivakovsky emphasized that strong student self-government is a sign of a mature university. After all, it is about forming a new generation of responsible leaders capable of making decisions and changing the environment around them.
«The election of the head of the student parliament is an extremely important event in the life of the university. It is about the active position of youth, about responsibility and real influence. About how students do not just study, but shape the university environment and see themselves as part of something larger. The position of the head of the student parliament is not a formality. It is leadership, representing the interests of hundreds of students, participating in decision-making, communicating with the rectorate, initiating changes and projects. In fact, it is the voice of the student body and, at the same time, a great responsibility for the development of the student community», – commented KSU Rector Oleksandr Spivakovsky.
He also added that neither the rector nor representatives of the rectorate influence the choice of the candidates.
KSU Vice-Rector for Social, Humanitarian and Scientific-Pedagogical Work Veronika Denysenko also emphasized the importance of the event:
«The election of the head of the student parliament – is always an important event for the university. Today, it is not just a formal position, but the role of an active and proactive person – a person of action. It is someone who represents Kherson State University at various levels through their deeds. For the rectorate and dean's offices, it is important to work in tandem with students and the student parliament».
According to her, candidates must realize their responsibility and representative mission, as well as accumulate the ideas of the student community.
The event was moderated by the former head of the KSU student parliament, Anastasiia Samoilenko.
During the conference, a report by the head of the student parliament, Kateryna Pozniak, was heard. She spoke about the participation of student self-government in university and public projects, and also highlighted important achievements during her term.
In particular, one of the key steps was the approval of the Regulations on the KSU Student Ombudsman, which laid the foundation for the effective protection of students' rights.
«An important area of work was the career guidance sector: meetings with prospective students allowed them to feel the atmosphere of our community. We also paid attention to supporting national and regional values by conducting patriotic flash mobs for the Anniversary of the Founding of Kherson Region, Taras Shevchenko's birthday, and Vyshyvanka Day», — noted Kateryna Pozniak.
In addition, the student parliament organized an online meeting dedicated to current challenges, specifically the problem of vaping prevalence among youth. The student parliament also joined a social and humanitarian initiative — the presentation of an info-box for interaction with those released from captivity.
After the report, they proceeded to the election of the new head of the student parliament. Three female students presented their candidacies:
- Elvira Andriiv — Faculty of Computer Science, Physics and Mathematics
- Iryna Butvamova — Medical Faculty;
- Anastasiia Kalashnykova — Pedagogical Faculty.
The candidates presented their programs, ideas, and vision for the development of the student parliament, and also answered questions.
Based on the voting results, Anastasiia Kalashnykova won—she received 59 votes (81.3%). Elvira Andriiv received 8.5% of the votes, and Iryna Butvamova received 8.4%.
