KSU Systematically Works on Improving its Internationalization Strategy

Within the framework of the German-Ukrainian SUUN partnership at Saarland University in Germany, Vice-Rector for International Affairs of Kherson State University, Alla Tsapiv, is participating in a training aimed at developing and improving Strategic Action Plans (SAP) to advance internationalization in universities.

Only 10 participants from Ukraine, selected through a competitive process and interviews, have the opportunity to spend a week working with a group of experts and fellow participants to discuss strategies, solutions, and assessments for implementing their internationalization development plans.

At Kherson State University, the Internationalization Strategy has already been adopted; however, it is not a static document. It requires continuous improvement, taking into account the university’s unique experience in international partnerships and ambitious plans.

Key topics of the training include:

1. Intercultural leadership in the university environment;
2. Development and implementation of Strategic Action Plans (SAP);
3. Internationalization of higher education and European practices;
4. Governance, management and quality assurance systems in universities;
5. Risk analysis and strategic development planning.

On behalf of the KSU community, Alla Tsapiv presented Prof. Dominik Brodowski, Vice-Rector for Internationalization at Saarland University, with the publication “Kherson Essays: Living to Win”, which collects personal stories and reflections of university representatives about the full-scale invasion, war and the occupation of Kherson.

She also presented souvenirs from Ukraine to Prof. Dr. Astrid M. Fellner, Academic Director of Saarland University and moderator of the inter-university SUUN partnership, as a symbol of gratitude and openness to cooperation.

During the training, participants are expected to develop draft Strategic Action Plans (SAP) for internationalization with clearly defined implementation steps, risks and mitigation measures, as well as success indicators.

Participation in such programs is not only about exchanging experience. It is an opportunity to integrate best European practices into the development of KSU, strengthen management approaches and form realistic, measurable tools for internationalization.

Our task is to transform developed solutions into concrete actions that will strengthen the university’s positions in the international academic space.
