Meeting with students of Lyceum No. 5, Ivano-Frankivsk

Oleksandr Cheremisin - Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of History, Archaeology and Teaching Methods visited Lyceum No. 5 in Ivano-Frankivsk. The meeting with schoolchildren was aimed at understanding the experience of modern Ukrainian history through the prism of events in the South, in particular in Kherson, the professor recalled the first attempts by the Russians to capture the village of Strilkove, Kherson region, as harbingers of further aggression, and also emphasized the failure of attempts to destabilize the region by imposing a pseudo-republic scenario. Special attention was paid to the events of February 24, 2022 - the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation and the situation of Kherson under temporary occupation. Oleksandr Cheremisin also revealed the phenomenon of civil resistance of the townspeople, in particular, mass pro-Ukrainian speeches on Freedom Square as a manifestation of the city's indomitable Ukrainian identity. Based on his own experience of surviving the temporary occupation, he outlined the nature of the repressive practices of Russian security forces, and also highlighted the role of Kherson State University in organizing humanitarian aid, supporting the resistance, and preserving cultural heritage.
