Kherson State University hosted the Turkish delegation headed by Ambassador Samsar
On February 15, 2013 Ambassador of Turkey to Ukraine - Mehmet Samsar, his wife and the Consul General of Turkey in Odessa - Huseyin Ergani visited Kherson State University (KSU). Rector Prof. Alexander Khodosovtsev attended to the meeting with the Turkish Diplomats. Also, the Dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation Professor Vladislava Demetskaya and the Head of International Relations Office, Coordinator of Information Centre of EU at KSU - Eugenia Spivakovska were at the meeting.
The purpose of the honorable guests’ visit was to discuss possible areas of cooperation between Turkish universities and KSU, and the opportunities for Turkish students to study in Ukraine and Ukrainian citizens in Turkey.
Ambassador of Turkey to Ukraine Mehmet Samsar pointed out that Kherson State University is one of the best state universities in the southern part of Ukraine. He confirmed that Turkey is interested in educational partnership with Ukraine, in particular with KSU. Current cooperation agreements which have been signed at the level of the leading Ukrainian and Turkish Universities are the proof of this interest.
Consul General of Turkey in Odessa - Huseyin Ergani said that currently cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey has been expanded not only to the economic field, but also to the scientific and research areas. Therefore, more Turkish students receive (and would like to get) education in Ukraine, and vice versa.
He noted that the cooperation between KSU and Yunus Emre Institute (Ankara) is under study by the International Relations Office of KSU now. Future relations will also include research and cultural projects on the ethnic and historical heritage of Ukrainian and Turkish nations. Various Ukrainian and Turkish projects will open the way for more bilateral contacts between the educational institutions of both countries.
Professor Vladislava Demetska, the Dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation, said that study on Turkish language at KSU will promote common inceptions. Moreover, Chair of Romanic and Germanic Languages is willing to take part and assist as much as possible to this developing relation.
At the end of the meeting, Rector of the University underlined that the International Relations Office initiated and implemented a number of educational-research projects with many foreign university-partners and they are open and ready to start new mutual scientific and cultural connections with other countries. KSU is ready to take part in new projects and educational research. The International Relations Office will have a role as a coordinator about the abovementioned plans. All the documents needed for the implementation of these plans will be prepared and presented to the Turkish partners soon.
Today there are 72 foreign students studying at the University, and their number increases every year. At this moment, there are 36 different area of specialization out of which foreign students can freely choose. Also, the Rector pointed out at the university new areas for specialization are planned to be opened in the future, for instance, economic cybernetics. He added that KSU would like to develop successfully cooperation with the Turkish potential partners in different fields and areas. It will be not only students’ exchange, but also common journals’ publications, holding of conferences and seminars etc.
The honorary guests visited then the auditorium of Turkish Cultural Center, which pleased them with its design, interior stands, appliances (television), a number of information materials. The Ambassador said that in his opinion, the auditorium of Turkish Cultural Center comply with all standards and is a nice base for meetings, classes, conferences, which will serve to improve and develop further relations with Turkey.
The meeting was held at a high level in a warm and pleasant atmosphere.
