On the 15th of October 2012 the First Vice-Rector of Kherson State University Dr. Alexander Spivakovsky had a meeting with the Vice President on Enrollment Services of Eastern Washington University Lawrence Briggs.
The questions for the interview had been prepared by the Dean of the Faculty of Pre-University Training, general secretary of the Admission Committee of KSU Elvira Fatieieva. First of all she was interested in the entrance exam for the prospective university students in American universities and whether their results influence the choice of the Admission Committee.
Vice President Lawrence Briggs told that this year the Eastern Washington University (EWU) received a lot of applications for the admission to the university (about 5000 person). We choose 3800 the best applications, but only 1700 prospective university students can study at Eastern Washington University. On admission to university in America counted grade point average after school and the results of the national testing. We hold interview with foreign applicants to establish the legacy of the documents and also choose the field of study, their major. The Eastern Washington University has own student’s base, access to which is not able even for the State of Washington.
The tuition fee at the Eastern Washington University is so high: about 10 thousand dollars per year for the U.S. citizens and 30 thousand dollars a year for citizens of other countries. Thus during the first year of study, students learn general subjects and consult with university professors on choosing future profession and list of the subjects. The tutors also help students make the choice of future profession for graduation. There are no "academic" groups in the Eastern Washington University, which are traditional for Ukrainian students. There formed “educational” groups, which depend on the subject of study.
