The card of the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology and Journalism and Arts

On 2–3 June 2026, the 4th International Scientific and Practical Conference ‘Linguistic Horizons of the 21st Century’ took place. The event was organised by the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology, Journalism and Arts, and the Department of English Philology and World Literature named after Professor Oleg Mishukov.
Among the international scholars who delivered presentations were professors from universities in the United Kingdom (Leeds, Nottingham, Arden – Global University System), Slovenia (University of Nova Gorica), Germany (Konstanz University of Applied Sciences), Bulgaria (American School, Varna) and Poland (AGH University of Science and Technology, Kraków).

In the spring of 2026, the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology, Journalism and Arts held a series of career guidance sessions with Year 11 pupils from secondary schools in the Kherson region and other parts of Ukraine.
Over a two-month period, regular online meetings and presentations of the faculty’s educational programmes took place. Students had the opportunity to learn about the degree programmes, the specifics of studying and student life, and to ask questions of lecturers and students.

On 10 February 2026, a meeting was held with 11th grade students of the Bilozersky Lyceum No. 1 named after O.Y. Pechersky of the Bilozersky Village Council of the Kherson District. The event was organised and conducted by the Department of English Philology and World Literature named after Professor Oleg Mishukov – Professor Olga Zabolotskaya and Associate Professor Kateryna Frantsuzova.
The students heard information about studying in the educational programme ‘Philology (Germanic Languages and Literatures (including translation))’, ‘Secondary Education (English Language and Literature)’, the advantages of distance learning, completing assignments on the KSU-online platform, the use of the latest digital technologies, and the opportunity to study abroad under double degree and semester exchange programmes at universities in Poland and Austria.
During the English language master class, students were able to experience the atmosphere of a class at Kherson State University and learn about the opportunities for teaching foreign languages at the university.

On 17 November 2025, as part of the celebrations marking the 108th anniversary of Kherson State University, an international digital educational and scientific project entitled ‘Linguistic research by contemporary scholars: challenges, discussions, prospects’ was launched.
The first topic of the event was the report ‘The Ukrainian Language in Poland in the 21st Century: Problems, Changes, Trends,’ presented by Paweł Lewczuk, a research fellow at the Department of Linguistics of the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The speaker used his own research to show the key trends in the development of the Ukrainian language in Poland, particularly in the educational sphere, drawing attention to the challenges and prospects of teaching it.
The event was attended by guests, students and teachers, who had the opportunity to join in the professional discussion, ask questions and share their own observations on the development of the Ukrainian language abroad.
The event was important for discussing current trends and prospects for the Ukrainian language in the educational sphere in Poland.

Teachers and students of the Journalism educational programme took part in an interactive lecture entitled ‘How to counter xenophobia in wartime. The media aspect’, organised by the Kyiv Human Rights Hub in conjunction with the Department of Social Communications of the Institute of Journalism at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The lecture was given by Vyacheslav Likhachov, an expert at the Centre for Civil Liberties and head of the National Minority Rights Monitoring Group.
During the meeting, the speaker emphasised that Ukrainian society has become much more sensitive to manifestations of hate speech. Such cases are now less frequent, occurring mainly in marginal publications or social networks. At the same time, according to the expert, part of the problem has ‘moved’ to the online space, where uncontrolled statements spread more quickly.

As part of academic mobility, during the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year (from 1 October to 30 December 2025), a second-level (master's) higher education student was sent to study at Adam Mickiewicz University (Poznań, Republic of Poland) – Pylypiv Yana Mykolaivna, a 2nd-year student of the educational programme ‘Secondary Education (English Language and Literature)’, specialisation 014 Secondary Education, specialisation 014.021 English Language and Foreign Literature. During her studies, the student will have the opportunity to gain new academic experience at a European university, improve her language and intercultural skills, and represent Kherson State University in the international educational environment.

On 04 April 2025, the School held an online meeting with applicants planning to enter the second (master's) level of higher education. The meeting was hosted by the Dean of the Faculty Iryna Goshtanar, who briefed future applicants on the features of the 2025 admission campaign. During the active communication, the participants learned about the current educational programmes of the School, admission requirements, organisation of the educational process, as well as new opportunities and prospects offered by the Master's degree programme. Everyone received comprehensive answers to their questions and practical advice on how to prepare for admission. The Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology and Journalism sincerely thanks everyone who took part in the meeting and invites applicants to enter the second (master's) level of higher education!

From 17 February to 06 March 2025, the Department of English Philology and World Literature named after Professor Oleh Mishukov held ‘Translation Readings (Poetry)’ initiated by Associate Professor Olena Khan. Philology students of the 2nd and 4th years of the first (bachelor's) level of higher education had the opportunity to try their hand at creative translation of poetry, discuss the peculiarities of literary translation and share their own interpretations. The event not only contributed to the development of language and translation skills, but also inspired the participants to further their creative pursuits. We thank everyone for their active participation and interesting discussions!

As part of the Applicant's Week, teachers of the Department of English Philology and World Literature named after Professor Oleh Mishukov held a series of master classes ‘From Successful Study to a Successful Career’ for students of grades 10-11 of the Kherson Educational Complex ‘Preschool Educational Institution - Specialised School with Advanced Study of English of the First Degree - Gymnasium’ No. 56 of the Kherson City Council, Kherson Specialised School of I-III Degrees No. 30 with Advanced Study of Natural and Mathematical Subjects and English Language Kherson

On 5 March 202 5, Kherson State University hosted an online open day for prospective students planning to enter the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology and Journalism. The event was attended by over 100 participants from all over Ukraine and the world. During the online meeting, the attendees had the opportunity to learn about all the benefits of studying at the School, educational programmes, detailed information about the admission campaign, as well as to meet the School's management, heads of departments, guarantors and representatives of student self-government.

On 20 and 21 February 2025, the teachers of the Department of English Philology and World Literature named after Professor Oleh Mishukov held a series of master classes ‘From Successful Study to Successful Courier’ with students of grades 10-11 of the Kherson Specialised School of I-III degrees No. 12 with in-depth study of the French language of the Kherson City Council, Novovorontsov Lyceum of the Novovorontsov Village Council, and Kherson Lyceum No. 52 ‘Perspective’ of the Kherson City Council.
