International Academic and Professional Activities of the Academic Staff

An important area of the Department’s activity is the development of international academic and educational links with higher education institutions, research institutions, and professional organisations abroad.

The Department’s academic staff participate in international academic mobility programmes, research placements, professional development programmes, international projects, and mentoring programmes.

In particular, Associate Professor L. A. Kovbasiuk completed a placement at the Summer Academy Methods and Didactics of Teaching German at the University of Regensburg (Germany) in July 2011; a research placement at the BAYHOST Summer Academy for Alumni on The Social Aspect of Teaching German at Higher and Secondary Education Institutions (Bavaria, Germany) in June 2013; and a DAAD research placement at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich on The Linguistic Aspect of Modern Means of Communication in July 2013. She also participated in the DAAD research programme Invitation of Former Scholarship Holders at the University of Augsburg (Germany) from 1 December 2017 to 28 February 2018, No. 91654404, as well as in the DAAD Alumni Forum Geisteswissenschaften im Zeitalter der Digitalisierung (The Humanities in the Age of Digitalisation) on 28–29 May 2020.

L. A. Kovbasiuk participated in the IREX international project, supported by the Embassies of the United States and the United Kingdom, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Academy of the Ukrainian Press, Learn to Discern: Multimedia Literacy, as well as in the IREX project, supported by the Embassies of the United States and the United Kingdom, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Academy of the Ukrainian Press, A New Tool – New Opportunities: Getting to Know Altspace VR (September–October 2021).

Associate Professor L. A. Kovbasiuk completed professional development courses provided by the Goethe-Institut within the Learning to Teach German programme: Course 5 Teaching Materials and Multimedia Tools — 11 January–21 March 2021; Course 7 Examinations, Tests and Assessment — 17 January–23 February 2022 and 28 March–15 May 2022; Course 6 Teaching Materials and Lesson Planning — 24 September–5 December 2022; and Course 4 Tasks, Exercises and Interaction — 30 September–8 December 2024.

From 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2025, L. A. Kovbasiuk held a grant from the Philipp Schwartz Initiative of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to conduct research in Münster, Germany.

From 15 January to 15 April 2025, L. A. Kovbasiuk participated in the British PushFar Mentoring Programme, where her mentor was Professor Christina Kim of the University of Kent (United Kingdom).

From 1 August 2026 to 31 January 2027, L. A. Kovbasiuk is a scholarship holder of the DAAD “Zukunft Ukraine” (“Future Ukraine”) Scholarship Programme, which supports Ukrainian scholars and promotes academic cooperation between Ukraine and Germany. Participation in the programme provides opportunities for research, professional development, international academic communication, and the expansion of scholarly networks.

Associate Professor I. V. Hoshtanar completed a placement at schools and vocational education institutions participating in the Goethe-Institut’s Schools: Partners for the Future programme (Lower Saxony, Germany) in July 2014; at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (Republic of Poland) under the Polish Studies Research programme from 19 to 25 March 2023; and at Pomeranian University in Słupsk (Republic of Poland) as a guest lecturer within the Erasmus+ KA131 programme from 12 to 14 June 2023.

I. V. Hoshtanar also completed professional training at the University of Strasbourg (France) and participated in the training workshop A Network of Universities for Improving Management Capacities and New Developments: Best Practices of the University of Strasbourg and the EPICUR Alliance within the DigiUni project of the EU Erasmus+ programme, Digital University – Open Ukrainian Initiative.

Lecturer and PhD O. V. Stavenko participated in the international summer school at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (Poland), Internationalization and Internationalization at Home through Virtual Exchange: Creating a Motivating Environment for Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), held from 14 to 20 July 2024.

From 12 September to 12 December 2025, O. V. Stavenko participated in the British PushFar Mentoring Programme, where her mentor was Dr Stella Bolaki, Associate Professor of American Literature and Medical Humanities and Co-Director of the Centre for Health and Medical Humanities at the University of Kent (United Kingdom).

The international activities of the Department’s academic staff contribute to the expansion of academic and professional networks, the development of research cooperation, the exchange of expertise, and the implementation of contemporary European approaches to language education, research, and professional development.
