The purpose of the laboratory
The main purpose of the laboratory is to study the ecological characteristics of vegetation in southern Ukraine and develop practical measures for the protection and rational use of natural ecosystems.
History
ORDER №261-D dated April 10, 2003
Created on the basis of the decision of the Academic Council of the University from 07.04.2003 "On the opening of a research laboratory of plant ecology and environmental protection at the Department of Botany" (Minutes №5).
The laboratory was established in 2003 to ensure full-fledged research work of graduate students of the Faculty of Biology, Geography and Ecology; implementation of economic contract research and development within the main working hours of the NPP. The research of the laboratory is based on the herbarium collection of vascular plants, which has more than 12 thousand specimens, representing about 2.5 thousand species.
The Laboratory of Plant Ecology and Environmental Protection was the main executor of 15 projects (international, state budget, economic contract), and in total the laboratory participated in the implementation of 35 projects.
Projects:
• Ukrainian-Swedish international project “How the East was won: Towards an environmental history of the Eurasian steppe” (13.09.2013-31.03.2019);
• Swedish Scientific Committee (Fund: Swedish Research Links / Vetenskapsrådet, N 348-2012-6112) http://www.vr.se/;
State budget topics:
• "Phytodiversity as a basis for the formation of the ecological network of the anthropogenically fragmented region" (01.01.2014 to 31.12.2015); Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine;
• "Anthropogenic transformation of phytodiversity of the Northern Black Sea region: patterns and possibilities of process management" (01.01.2016 to 31.12.2018); Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
The research results are published in leading journals of Ukraine (Ukrainian Botanical Journal, Black Sea Botanical Journal) and well-known international publications (Plants Biosystems, Acta Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, Polish Botanical Studies, Polish Journal of Ecology, Biodiversity Research and Conservation, Analles UMSC, Willdenowia Kitaibellia, Biodiversity and Conservation, Contemporary Problems of Ecology, Journal of Systematics and Evolution, Acta Oecologica, Basic and Applied Ecology, etc.). Specialists of the laboratory are co-authors of a number of fundamental monographic publications: Red Book of Ukraine (2009), Ecoflora of Ukraine (2010), Herbarium of Ukraine. Index Herbariorum Ucrainicum (2011), Red Book of the Azov region. Vascular plants (2012), Phytodiversity of reserves and national nature parks of Ukraine. Part 1. Biosphere and nature reserves (2012), Phytodiversity of reserves and national nature parks of Ukraine. Part 2. National Natural Parks (2012), Vascular Plants of the Emerald Network of Ukraine under the protection of the Bern Convention (2017), National Catalog of Habitats of Ukraine (2018), Catalog of Habitats of the Steppe Zone of Ukraine (2020), etc.
Specialists of the laboratory, participants of many scientific expeditions to study the flora of the steppe and forest-steppe zone of Ukraine, also participated in expeditions to other regions of Ukraine and abroad (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Hungary, Sweden, Switzerland, etc.) .
