The laboratory was established in November 1998 at the Department of Botany of Kherson State University. The aim is a research of biodiversity and environmental monitoring in different regions of Ukraine. In 2004, based on the decision of the Academic Council of the laboratory of the biodiversity and environmental monitoring was named honored Ukrainian and Polish scientist J.K. Pachoskiy.
Head of the Laboratory - Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Honored Education Worker of Ukraine, Vice-President of Ukrainian Botanical Society - A.Ye. Khodosovtsev.
Laboratory staff work on a contractual basis during project implementation. High activity in work of the laboratory during last 20 years were: Prof. M.F. Boyko, Prof. I.I. Moysiyenko, Dr. N.V. Zagorodnyuk, Mgs. V.M. Klymenko, Mgr. V.V. Darmostuk, Mgr. A.A. Ponomaryova, Mgr. K.S. Orlova, Mgr. N.G. Malyuga.
The main activities of the laboratory are:
• critical study of the diversity of lichens and lichenicolous fungi of Ukraine;
• taxonomic study of lichens and lichenicolous fungi in the selected regions of Eurasia;
• inventory of flora and mycobiota of protected sites in southern Ukraine;
• monitoring of flora and mycobiota of urban and nature habitats;
• assessment of anthropogenic impacts on the environment;
• creation of objects of the nature reserve fund of Ukraine;
• creation of cadastral documentation for the objects of the nature reserve fund.
