October 1917 – Evacuation of Yuryivsk Teacher's Institute from the Baltic region to Kherson.
November 14, 1917 – Start of classes at Yuryivsk Teacher's Institute in Kherson.
September 1, 1918 – Legal recognition of Yuryivsk Teacher's Institute as a Ukrainian educational institution.
July 2, 1919 – Yuryivsk Teacher's Institute reorganized into Kherson Pedagogical Institute with a four-year study program.
1919 – Establishment of the Pedagogical Institute Council and the Student Council.
September 1919 – February 1920 – The Pedagogical Institute temporarily ceased operations due to the Civil War.
March 2, 1920 – The activities of the Kherson Pedagogical Institute were resumed.

1938–1939 academic year – Opening of the Faculty of Language and Literature with Russian and Ukrainian departments.
1939 – A Workers' Faculty was opened at KhSPI.
1939 – Construction of an astronomical pavilion-observatory.
1939–1940 academic year – Socialist competition named after the Third Stalin Five-Year Plan with Mykolaiv Pedagogical Institute.
1940 – All-Union Scientific Conference on the Ukrainian Language was held at KhSPI.
1940 – Publication of "Scientific Notes of KhSPI named after N.K. Krupskaya", Issue No. 1.
August 19, 1941 – March 13, 1944 – The activities of KhSPI named after N.K. Krupskaya were interrupted due to the Nazi occupation of Kherson.
From August 1941 to March 1944, the Kherson State Pedagogical Institute named after N.K. Krupskaya ceased its activities. Most students and faculty members heroically fought on the frontlines of the war. Among them was Mykhailo Moskalenko, a third-year student of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, who voluntarily applied to the military commissariat. He graduated from the Krasnodar Officers' School in March 1942, received the rank of lieutenant, and as the best graduate, was assigned to the 109th Guards Rifle Division as a mortar platoon commander. Mykhailo received his first combat award—the Medal "For Courage"—for battles during the liberation of the Caucasus. In September 1943, during the liberation of Melitopol, Mykhailo Moskalenko heroically perished. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated November 1, 1943, Guards Lieutenant M.I. Moskalenko was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

During World War II, the Kherson State Pedagogical Institute lost all material and educational equipment, including specialized classrooms, laboratories, an observatory, a library with a 100,000-volume collection, a cafeteria, designated apartments for faculty members, and two dormitories. The main building was turned into a stable. The total damage inflicted on the institute amounted to 12,704,721 karbovanets (according to the financial report of the institute for 1944).
March 20, 1944 – The work of KhSPI named after N.K. Krupskaya was resumed (5 faculties, correspondence department).
September 1944 – A teacher training institute was opened (3 departments).
1945 – Departments of Ukrainian and Russian language and literature were opened at the teacher training institute.
1945-1946 academic year – A correspondence teacher training institute was opened.
January 9, 1945 – The Academic Council of KhSPI resumed its work.
1948 – The first post-war issue of Scientific Notes of KhSPI named after N.K. Krupskaya was published.
1949 – A student scientific society was established.
September 1, 1950 – The geography and history faculties were closed.
1955 – A greenhouse and an animal husbandry facility were established at the Natural Sciences Faculty.
1956-1957 academic year – Training of teachers with a broad specialization began.
1958 – A new observatory was opened at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics.
1959 – A water station was opened on the banks of the Dnipro River.
1960 – A handball team was created at KhSPI.
1960 – The men's ensemble Beryozka was established.
1961 – A School of Young Mathematicians was created.
1962 – A General Science Faculty was opened at KhSPI (3 departments).
1963-1965 – The first institute-designed teaching devices, including the Shkolyar learning machine, were constructed.
1964 – A research laboratory for high-temperature semiconductors and special alloys was opened at the Department of Physics.
1964 – The Faculty of Public Professions was established.
1965 – Eight-month preparatory courses for admission to KhSPI were organized.
1965 – The Faculty of Language and Literature was reorganized into the Philological Faculty with Ukrainian and Russian departments.
1965-1966 academic year – The course Technical means of teaching was introduced in all faculties.
1966 – Academic councils of faculties were established.
1966 – A department for training teachers of Russian language and literature for the Uzbek SSR and the Karakalpak Autonomous Republic was opened at the Philological Faculty.
1967 – The Young Scientists' Council was created.
1967 – For the first time, student scientific works were submitted to a republican competition.
1967 – The Art Council of KSPI was established.
1967 KhSPI was awarded an Honorary Certificate by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR.
1967 – A new student dormitory was opened.
1969 – A republican scientific and practical conference was held, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of N.K. Krupskaya’s birth.
1970 – A School of Young Educators was opened.
1972 – A research sector was established at KhSPI.

November 24, 1978 – The new main building of KhSPI named after N.K. Krupskaya was opened.

1986 – The Institute Council on New Information Technologies in Education was established.
1986 – The Faculty of Foreign Languages was opened.
1989 – The building of the Philological Faculty was opened.
1990 – An experiment on implementing the concept of continuous pedagogical education began.
September 17, 1991 – The preparatory department was reorganized into the Faculty of Pre-University Training.
1991 – An inter-university research laboratory for aesthetic education under the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine was established.
1991 – A laboratory for studying the regional historical and cultural identity of Southern Ukraine was created.
1991 – The Southern Ukrainian Educational and Methodological Regional Center Pilot Schools was founded.

May 25, 1998 – By Resolution No. 744 dated May 25,1998 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Kherson State Pedagogical Institute was reorganized into Kherson State Pedagogical University (KSPU).
October 1998 – The first issue of the Kafedra newspaper of KSPU and the Academic Lyceum was published.

November 16, 2002 – By order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 641-r dated November 16,.2002, Kherson State Pedagogical University was reorganized into Kherson State University.
2002 – The Center for Polish Language and Culture was opened.

March 10, 2017 – The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine issued Resolution No. 133 dated March 10,2017 "On the Establishment of Military Training Units at Higher Educational Institutions and Amendments to the Appendix to the Procedure for Conducting Military Training of Ukrainian Citizens under the Reserve Officer Training Program," which initiated the establishment of a military department at KSU.

June 8, 2018 – Oleksandr Spivakovskiy, Doctor of Pedagogy, Professor, was officially appointed as Rector of KSU (Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine No. 246-k dated June 08, 2018).
